Eutelsat’s New Strategy

Abandoning the Ground to Aim for the Sky?

Eutelsat Group, in a move brimming with strategic brilliance, is carving out and partially selling its passive ground segment infrastructure.

This might seem like a curious decision for a company already grappling with delays in deploying Eutelsat OneWeb ground stations—delays that, let’s not forget, have thrown a wrench in OneWeb’s service availability and coverage plans.

But who needs solid infrastructure when your business is space? Why not shed those pesky ground assets that only caused trouble? After all, who cares about Earth when you’re shooting for the stars?

It’s almost as if Eutelsat is saying, “Let’s get rid of the stuff that caused us headaches and see if we can float by on satellites alone.”

Perhaps this is their way of streamlining operations, focusing on what they do best, or perhaps it’s just about preparing to merge, acquire, or be acquired. (AGAIN?!?)

Either way, it’s a bold strategy—assuming, of course, that having a functional ground infrastructure isn’t actually that important in the satellite game.

But hey, at least they’re consistent: having already faced delays and issues with OneWeb, why not just cut their losses and get out of the ground game entirely?

If at first, you don’t succeed, just sell it off, right?
